Rumors are once again swirling of a “Nexus TV” set top box that would release in the first half of 2014. Will it function as also Chromecast receiver, allowing you to push content from your phone to the TV in the same manner as with the dongle?, a global provider of HTML5 set-top box (STB) software has introduced its new Virtual STB. A pure software product which brings all the services of a hybrid set-top box to Connected TVs.

STMicroelectronics has introduced two set-top box System-on-Chip (SoC) families, “Cannes” and “Monaco”, that include devices with UltraHD resolution (2160p) and HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) video-decoding support. The “Cannes” family is focused on set-top boxes, while the “Monaco” family includes the Faroudja® Transcode Engine and is focused on home gateways.

New IP client, cable and satellite SoCs add support for H.265 video compression standard. Support for H.265 to H.264 transcoding ensures support for current devices.

The first ever showing of DVB-C2 delivering 4K video is part of a three-way demonstration, that also includes delivery using DVB-S2 and DVB-T2.
