Ericsson is to launch a new Connected Home Gateway software designed to act as a single entry point for IPTV and multimedia telephony services into the home. The Gateway is compliant with telecom and consumer electronic standards, such as IMS, Open IPTV Forum and the Digital Living Network Alliance.

Stockholm-headquartered Nordic telco TeliaSonera reached 477,000 IPTV subscribers across all markets by the end of 2008, having added 99,000 customers during the year. Elsewhere, the telco’s IPTV services in Lithuania and Estonia are reported to have continued performing well in 2008, with Lithuanian subsidiary TEO adding 49,000 subs last year to reach 67,000 by December 2008, while its Estonian subsidiary Elion finished 2008 with 75,000 IPTV customers.

MTS Allstream Inc., Canada’s largest Internet Protocol television (IPTV) service provider, announced today that it has launched its MTS TV service in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. MTS is the largest of four IPTV service providers in Canada with over 80,000 IPTV customers. Other IPTV providers in Canada include Aliant, Sasktel and Telus.

Maroc Telecom has reached 10,000 IPTV subscribers contributing to a growth in profitability at the Morocco telco. The service launched in August 2006 and was constructed by the Chinese developer Huawei. The company has also worked on projects in Thailand, Ukraine, Serbia, Montenegro and China’s Guangdong province.

LG Dacom, the nation’s No. 3 fixed-line carrier, launched commercial services for its internet protocol television, myLGtv, in Seoul and the surrounding area on Jan. 1. LG Dacom’s myLGtv seeks to differentiate itself from its bigger rivals using high video quality and user-friendly interfaces.
